English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
Free English classes for non-English speakers are available at the El Reno Carnegie Library beginning Tuesday, September 7. Classes will meet from 6pm-8pm each Tuesday and Thursday night until December 9, 2010. Classes are free and all materials are provided. Library Closing – Labor Day Weekend
The library will be closed the following dates:
- Saturday, September 4
- Sunday, September 5
- Monday, September 6
The library will reopen Tuesday, September 7.
Free Basic Computer Classes
Once again, the library will offer free basic computer courses for adults. The classes are free but class size is extremely limited and registration is required. Adults may register by calling 262-2409 or visiting the library. Classes are designed to stand alone and do not need to be taken in sequence.
Classes will cover computer basics, internet basics, and provide an introduction to Microsoft Word processing. Additionally, two new courses are being offered. “HeritageQuest Genealogy Resources” will provide information about accessing census data and other resources available online to all library cardholders. “The New Library Catalog & Your Account” will explain how library users can renew materials and place reserves on popular titles from home.

Brown Bag Book Club fall selections
The library’s Brown Bag Book Club resumes lunch time meetings with a September 24 discussion of “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. 2010 marked the 50th anniversary of the publication of the classic novel. The library will screen the 1962 film adaptation at 1 p.m. that afternoon. The movie screening is open to all members of the public.
The book club’s other fall selections include “Work Song” by Ivan Doig (October 29) and “Priceless: How I went undercover to rescue the world’s stolen treasures” by Robert K. Wittman (November 19). The club will meet December 31 for a New Year’s Eve book party.
Brown Bag Book Club is free and no registration is required. The club meets the last Friday of most months to discuss the advertised title. Members may bring a sack lunch if they wish. Drinks are provided.
Tuesdays at 2 Story Time

Volunteer readers needed! Grandparents, retirees, moms, dads, students, etc have the opportunity to be a Story Time Leader on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00. All materials will be provided and a member of our staff will be present. This story time program is for children up to 5 years old and groups of 8-10 kids are expected.
